World wide Organic Market
The total value in 2007 was around USD 40 billion. Although most of the world’s regions report high growth rates, the largest growth in terms of turnover can be observed in North America and Europe. It assumes that the 60 billion US dollar limit will be reached for worldwide sales in 2010. The leading regions are Europe (52%) and North America (45%), and the leading markets are USA, Germany, UK, France and Italy. Market data is still not reliable, there are too many inflated figures, US data, for example, does not correspond to the US organic production area and level of imports.
The organic market, initially led by producers and traditional organic communities is gradually being dominated by large and vertically coordinated supermarkets, in terms of market share and ownership of top brands. Supermarket sales of organic produce amount to 40 per cent in Germany, 49 per cent in the United States of America, 80 per cent in Argentina and the United Kingdom, and 85 per cent in Denmark.

The largest Asian market for organic products is found in Japan. The Japanese organic market has been characterized as a market with high demand for organic products and strong purchasing power, and with low domestic supply of organic products.
In developing countries, organic production is mostly export-oriented and the main parts of production are marketed through exporters to the main markets such as the EU, the USA and Japan. However, there are some developing countries that now have local organic markets. The value of the domestic organic market in Brazil is estimated to 200 million USD. Argentina, Costa Rica, China and Thailand are other examples of quite successful local market development.
Internationally certified organic tea production was around 15,000 tons. Currently, about 75 percent of certified organic tea is being exported to Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, and the United States.
