to improve and maintain quality
to check soil erosion and establishment of proper drainage system
to act as an efficient channel for transmission of new research findings
    to the fields.

The progress of the work of this centre is reviewed periodically by an Advisory Committee which consists of the senior representatives of the Darjeeling Planters' Association, the Tea Research Association (TRA), and the scientists of the Tea Board. The Tea Research Liaison Committee of the Tea Board also oversees progress of DTRDC. The administration and financial control of DTRDC is in the hands of the Tea Board of India. The pay and allowances of the official attached to the centre are paid from the cess budget of the Tea Board. DTRDC is a recognized centre of North Bengal University for Ph D degree. This centre also works in close collaboration with national and international institutes and with agricultural universities on fundamental and applied aspects of research.
