Methyl chloride is the cheapest and most easily removed from the tea after decaffeination process. But the US and Germany have banned all imports of products using methyl chloride. Carbon dioxide is the most widely used and thought to be the least harmful. Decaffeinated tea is not totally free of caffeine. After decaffeination, a small percentage of caffeine still remains in leaf in all three processes.
